Rifflord: 7 Cremation Ground / Meditation LP (Die Hard edition) & Cassette version

Yeah, got this album by Rifflord few weeks ago from STB Records. Bought this also on cassette version from Teschio Dischi (didn’t manage to get that most limited cassette version but I’m good with the one I got). Like this album a lot, more than just a lot. Bluesy stoner with some southern influences, match made in heaven. I’m a huge fan of STB Records and this was obvious purchase. Have to admit that I was little surprised that STB has started using those mailers without so-called “buffer zones” , got my copy with dents on the corners of the cover.. and some old followers know exactly what I think about these cosmetic faults.. As I have said before, you just can’t win every time.. This die-hard edition is sold out but you still can get some other limited versions via STB’s BandCamp site. There’s also a handful of copies of this album available on cassette version from Italian label, Teschio Dischi (Teschio has sold out all their cassette versions). Recommended release, indeed.

Death: Symbolic LP (RE, white)

death - symbolic

I’m not that good at purchasing re-issues but sometimes there is no other choice. My history with Death is confined to three albums, Leprosy, Spiritual Healing & Human. When this album appeared I was already moving forward in my adventures in the miraculous world of music. Few years back I started hoarding these treasures of my own time back and I found this masterpiece “again”. The fact was, however, that the original version was beyond my reach because of those prizes they are asking for it at Discogs & Ebay. Few months ago I found this re-issue via Discogs and was forced to order a copy (actually I bought black version but got white one instead). Since I heard “Leprosy” at the first time I knew that this band was (and still is) the king of its genre. Awesome album this surely is and have been spinning under the needle almost daily last few months.

Mother Crone: Awakening LP (Sea Blue/ Bone Merge w/ Oxblood Splatter)

Makes me wonder how in earth this album hasn’t already sold out. Even though I’m a big fan of DHU Records and been purchasing (lately) nearly all releases from this label more or less blindly, this album from Mother Crone I listened  (well, all those tracks available) in advance. Holy freaking hell, I fell in love right away. Brilliant blend of stoner/metal and even a hint of some thrash metal influences mixed together. I’m digging this album (actually listening to it while writing this) a lot. Great band and awesome record label putting out these jewels one after another. I suggest you to check this monster out if your heart is opened for some hard-hitting stoner metal. Released on three different color variations and the one I ordered is the most limited one. Like I said, all variations are still available from the source, DHU Records. so move your fat as from that sofa and do something with your life,  buy this album. And huge thanks goes to DHU Records, the reason can be seen on the picture below, I’m really honored by this gesture.

Naga: Inanimate 12″

Little heavier stuff this time. This is Naga from Italy and they are doomed as hell. This mini-album is crushing, it’s dark and intense journey to some distant realm beyond our own. Found this release while checking out those “best of 2016” lists.. That is the reason I love all those “Lists”, you never know what kind of diamonds you may find. I found this and it was love at first sight. This is released by Lay Bare Recordings (according to them, limited to 100 copies) and distributed by Burning World Records (they have copies available via their Discogs page. After hearing this one, I have to purchase their debut album, Hēn, as soon as possible. Aaaarghh!

A few words about the year 2016 (and some listing..)

The past year has been very tough, and I am not just talking about the death of our beloved cat. A large concern for the world’s political conflicts, wars, climate issues etc. Even though these issues affect our everyday lives, this is a blog about vinyl records & music. Let’s keep it that way.

One of the coolest things that I have noticed is the fact that more and more retailers, record companies etc. have begun to use corner-protected mailers. During the past 5-6 years I have written about packaging & shipping more than once and nowadays blog post about these issues are becoming rarer. Nice.

Other thing is that maybe I have finally realized that I can’t afford to buy every record released, even though it hurts my heart. Just want to thank STB Records & Richard Houghten for those free records, it means a lot me.

During the past year I have bought very interesting records (in my opinion) and found myself purchasing more and more records from these small, DIY companies (STB Records, DHU Records, Poisoned Mind Records, Totem Cat Records etc.). I have found myself holding treasures in my hands, crying after diamonds I have missed. It’ a life of the collector, music lover.

I do not like listing my purchases, I love every damn record I have bought but here’s a list of those records I have listened most (according to app on my phone). These are not in any particular order, these are just records I have listened more than others. Oh, outside of this list is Bloomypetal’s (Richard Houghten) seven-inch “Open Horizon” that is my favourite little one!

Elbrus: Elbrus LP (red/white/black marbled)

Elbrus? Never heard of this band but as I was about to purchase that Son Of A Witch album from Kozmik Artifactz I came across with this record, listened it while via BandCamp and decided to purchase this one too. Now I have to say that I’m quite happy that I did. Bluesy, doomed, psychedelic stoner or something like that.. but the main thing here is that I like what I’m hearing here. Seems that there’s a punch of awesome bands coming from Australia nowadays. This colorway is also limited to 111 hand-numbered copies and available from Kozmik Artifactz. Recommended one indeed!

Neurosis: Enemy Of The Sun 2xLP, Souls At Zero 2xLP & Through Silver In Blood 2xLP

These I bought for myself as a christmas present. As you can see all three albums are represses, I can’t afford to buy original copies (surprise). I have this difficult relationship with Neuosis just because there’s one album above all (in my opinion) and that’s “The Eye Of Every Storm”. Yeah, I have purchased all their albums after that release but this particular album is a sort of cornerstone, or something, to me. Well,  now it’s time (at last) to get little more familiar with their previous albums and I think that this will be very rewarding journey. I’m a bit ashamed that I haven’t done this earlier but better late than never, I guess.

Son Of A Witch: Thrones In The Sky LP (white/black marbled)

I heard this album via BandCamp earlier this year and added it straight away to my “wishlist” hoping that someday soon this would see the daylight on vinyl format. And now it’s finally here, released by mighty Kozmik Artifactz. Son Of A Witch comes from Brazil (surely you already knew that..) and this is their debut full-length filled with hard-hitting doomed stoner. Damn good debut album and a good reminder that Sepultura ain’t the only band in Brazil. This white/black marbled colorway is limited to 111 hand-numbered copies and still available from the source, Kozmik Artifactz. Just check this out, it won’t disappoint you!

Albinö Rhino: Upholder LP

Albinö Rhino

As I  promised, I considered and purchased this latest long-play from Albinö Rhino. Upholder is the name of this self-released album and I’m hooked. I listened this via BandCamp quite a lot and on Saturday I had to visit local record store and save a copy for myself. With psychedelic-doomed-space soundscapes this album is nearly hypnotic and I like it a lot. Honestly I’m little amazed that this actually is self-released.. not that I have some problems with it but I really think that some label should sign this band as quickly as possible. Like I said, I really dig this one and I should check out their previous releases as soon as possible. Limited to 300 copies and available from band’s BandCamp site.

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore: Black Earth 2xLP (RE, 2016)

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore ‎– Black Earth

At last this beauty has been repressed and we are allowed to get our hands on this masterpiece of doomed-ambient-jazz. More than once I have been close to the purchase the original version but fortunately I’ve come to my senses. We all know that those prizes on Discogs & Ebay are ridiculous but finally we all can afford this one. I have no idea of limitation of this repress but I think that there are plenty of copies for everyone to get one. Available for example from Boomkat, Anost or Norman Records. Marvellous record!!

Mika Vainio: Mannerlaatta 2xLP (clear)

Mika Vainio - Mannerlaatta

Few months ago I purchased Pan Sonic’s soundtrack album for Mika Taanila’s film “Atomin Paluu” and here we have another soundtrack for another film. This time we are talking about Mika Vainio’s (other part of the Pan Sonic) soundtrack for Taanila’s new film “Mannerlaatta” (A Tectonic Plate). Well, this is minimal, electronic & experimental, what else we could expect? Yet another masterpiece from this pioneer of minimal electronic music. Taanila’s film is a feature-length Lettrist film, made entirely without a camera and who else could have done soundtrack for it than Vainio? This clear version of the vinyl is limited to 250 pieces and still available from Boomkat. Nice work, like always,

Various: Introverted Formula 2XLP (compilation)

I’m not that good when it comes to compilation, splits etc. This compilation I bought just because local record store keeper recommended it. Well, he wasn’t wrong, this is quite nice compilation of field recording & noise. All these artist are unknown to me and only thing familiar here is the record company, Järtecknet. Altar of Flies, Blodvite, Elisha Morningstar and Sewer Election & Anders Dahl performing some strange, haunting tunes her on this double album. Limited to 350 copies and if you find this interesting and worth purchasing, you can grab a copy for example from Sound + Matter. I like this but hey, I’m weird.
