One more addition to my Vainio collection, little different just because here you can almost hear some rhythmic elements on this one. It’s a pity that time wasn’t by Mika Vaino’s side and there must be a huge amount of unreleased material no one will ever never hear. As a fan I still wait some past records to be released on vinyl.. even though I have few of those on CD-format. Beautiful record this is and hunting continues for those […]
Well, well, well.. this recording is all about drone. Genre which is very difficult for most of us, myself included. Some may say that this record has nothing to do with music, but as we all know that’s not true. This is actually the first vinyl release from Youki Noseyama, aka Diesel Guitar, that much I know. There’s three pieces of live performances recorded on this vinyl, strange and interesting tunes. Limited to 100 copies with handmade covers and still […]
Five years ago I put this album on the top of my “wantlist”, five years it took to get it and yes, it was worth to fait. Mamaleek is a twisted shoegazing bastard child of blackened-doom-experimental-abstract-noise-drone scene.. This is kind of music you either like or you do not, there’s no shades of grey on this color palette. I love this. Thing that made this album little hard to find was obviously the limitation, only 100 copies floating around the […]
Here’s one album that altered my state of mind years & years ago, A-T-O-M-I-Z-E-R. My journey with Steve Albini started around 1994 when John Peel played “At Action Park” on his radio show (still have some of those shows recorded on cassette). Soon I discovered Rapeman & Big Black. This album, Atomizer, has been one of my all-time-favorite. If you haven’t heard Big Black before I suggest to check this one out, you either love it or then you hate it. […]
Then we have some experimental alternative rock from Australia. Have to admit that I was a little worried would this ever arrive but as you can see, it did (my skepticism is caused by another australian band, La Mancha Negra, that never managed to sent me a record I purchased 27 months ago..). Anyways, record came in perfect condition and I really like this one, so glad I bought it. Insane mixture of psych/noise/punk/ambient/shoegaze/no-wave/whatever and somehow they manage to keep it […]
Planning For Burial. Doomgaze might be the best word to describe this album, or not. Experimental/drone/darkened/shoegazing.. We can call it what ever we want and still we are nowhere near what this album is about. Ordered this from The Flenser sometime ago and it was totally worth to wait. Beautiful & painful. Music for travelling, alone. This is still available from The Flenser (both black & white vinyl with or without additional CD). Anost seems to have regular black copies […]
I’m not that good when it comes to compilation, splits etc. This compilation I bought just because local record store keeper recommended it. Well, he wasn’t wrong, this is quite nice compilation of field recording & noise. All these artist are unknown to me and only thing familiar here is the record company, Järtecknet. Altar of Flies, Blodvite, Elisha Morningstar and Sewer Election & Anders Dahl performing some strange, haunting tunes her on this double album. Limited to 350 copies and if […]
Few weeks ago Cascading Fragments tweeted that they are selling last lathes & cassettes for $1/pcs. Holy hell, purchased these immediately. Experimental drone, noise & dark soundscapes by Gorlen are way too difficult to explain. You have to hear these by yourself. I love these sounds and especially one of his aliases, Black Thread. More than happy with these releases but that was not all.. there was few extra items included.. I got also Summer Tape (that green cassette) and.. Black […]
While visiting the local record store the other day I asked the owner to recommend some records and he did, one was that Ättestupa’s album I wrote about earlier. I also bought two other records and this latest from Puce Mary was one of those. Really strange record, filled with strange tunes and in some twisted way I really enjoy these soundscapes. Noise, electronics, industrial, experimental are the words to describe this. Not bad at all, I just have to […]
Got this one from The Flenser few days ago. I’m smiling, just because this album is totally insane. Noise, industrial, samples, hardcore.. you name it. I can’t help myself but some distant way this reminds me of Johnny Violent and his awesome album “Shocker”. Anyways, this is refreshing album in every possible way. If you want to blow your brains away with music, try this one. This colored version is limited to 250 copies but first hundred copies came with […]
I so know that this kind of music does not fit in everybody’s frame but I love these tunes. I heard this compilation while visiting the local record store and the owner was playing this. It was his personal copy and was not for sale.. damn. I couldn’t get this out of my mind so later that day I ordered a copy for myself. This is a compilation (released by Posh Isolation) full of experimental, ambient, noise tunes from six […]
Woah! I just listened this album through and what a haunting beauty this is! This is the reason why I still keep on collecting records (even though I have been slowing down lately just because of that Terra Tenebrosa’s shipping fiasko few weeks ago). This double album arrived from Poland in sturdy mailer, in perfect condition. Stara Rzeka (as far as I know) is a one-man band of Polish Jakub Ziolek. He is blending different genres successfully in his music; ambient, […]
Pigs and their perfectly titled album, “You Ruin Everything”. This album has been on my “Most Wanted” list for ages and few weeks ago I found a copy via Discogs and luckily it also arrived in perfect condition. This band goes to the same category as Jesus Lizard & Shellac when talking about noise-rock bands. I have been listening so much stoner/sludge records lately so this is like refreshing wind, blowing from ear to ear. This colorway is from the […]
I got this lathe-cut seven-inch few days ago. It’s single-sided tiny flexi disc with only one song/tune of experimental done. Actually I don’t know anything about this artist but so what. I have managed to purchase few earlier recordings from Black Thread and I love those little records. This one here is limited to 15 physical copies and I bought this via Discogs, for reasonable prize. Darkened experimental hazy drone and I suggest you to check it out!
Yes, new release from Alessandro Cortini. What can I say, brilliant record this is (like all the previous releases from this artist). There’s two tracks on this 12″ and I find this recording very dark, hopeless.. in other words it’s a beauty. I have no idea of limitation but this is available from numerous stores, for example from following ones Piccadilly Records, Norman Records, Red Eye Records. Grab a copy and step into the darkness. More, please (and soon!)
Second-hand item picked from the local record store. It’s always nice to find something you have been searching and last week I scored once again. Knut and their awesome sludge/hardcore/math/noise release “Terraformer” and oh, this is also the most limited color variation of this record (limited to 100 copies). Not a bad deal at all considering the prize I paid of it. Now I have to after those previous releases too.. damn.
Oakeater with their latest release “Aquarius”. I get to know this group from their split release with Mamiffer few years ago and I’m happy that I did. This record is filled with industrial, darkened, ambient, drone and it’s crushing, disturbing & mesmerizing at the same time. Post-apocalyptic soundtrack with no hope of sunny days of late 70’s. Limited to 150 copies and available from Sige Records (US) & Anost (EU). Go for it while it’s still available. — —
Actually this album has been on my super “secret” wishlist for a long, long time and finally it found its way to my hairy hands. Helen Money with her cello and Jarboe’s piano & vocals paint the world with beautiful/experimental tunes. I remember hearing “Hello Mr. Blue” from this album at the time it was released and I was like “Woah!” and I still am. This stunning album was released by Aurora Borealis Records and I you want a copy, […]
Another result from crate digging I did last weekend, Hey Colossus & Project: Death 12″. Few years back I didn’t knew anything about this band but suddenly in some strange circumstance I heard a song “Hot Grave” from their album “Cuckoo Live Life Like Cuckoo” and I was sold. Because I’m not that good placing bands on some specific genres I stay still.. or maybe I could say that they play some strange mixture of krautrock, psychedelic & acid rock […]
Did some gratedigging yesterday and never thought I could find Mamaleek’s record here where I live, but I did. This mint condition album cost me 10 euros and I’m really glad that I now can swipe this record from my secret “wantlist”. Mamaleek is a weird mixture of black metal, dark ambient, drone, noise etc. and I have been a big fan of this band since I heard their album “Kurdaitcha” (which I’m still missing). Limited to 300 copies and […]
Yesterday I got this one too.. this time on clear vinyl! And here’s what I said about this release few posts earlier: I’ve been staring at this monitor now for a while, I just don’t know what to write. I’m just listening.. It started with “The Crystal World” five years ago, listening. This band has been one of my favorite since. And because I’m not a critic nor musically talented I have no fancy words to describe this release and […]
I nearly skipped this one (do not even ask why..) but suddenly I came to my senses and purchased this white vinyl version from Profound Lore. My first album from Prurient and I have to say that this release leaves me speechless.. overwhelming & astonishing one. This release needed a little time and patience but suddenly it revealed itself to me. Don’t even know what genre to put this one because there obviously are influences from all of them.. electronics, […]
I’ve been staring at this monitor now for a while, I just don’t know what to write. I’m just listening.. It started with “The Crystal World” five years ago, listening. This band has been one of my favorite since. And because I’m not a critic nor musically talented I have no fancy words to describe this release and the music on it. In my own words; if you buy only one record this year, buy this one. Absolutely beautiful album […]
Got this misery/sadness filled instrumental post-rocking dark ambient atmosphere filled album earlier this week (I think it was Monday..). Well anyways, I have been listening this one a lot today and once again I have to say that I really like what I am hearing here. And how did I came across with this band at the first place? Actually I was checking out where to find that latest long-play from the almighty Thisquietarmy (got that one coming this way […]
drooooooneeee.. Actually this one has been released on CD format last year but now it’s time for vinyl version. I have been listening this one few days now while cycling to work & home 8 hours later. As far as I know, this is second collaborative between these two acts (first one was released by Important Records few years ago, on vinyl) and I like this surprise surprise. Nice work once again and special thanks to Throne Records for bringing […]
After Ashes And Blues, album by The Void Of Expansion, I wanted to know more about Dirk Serries & what he has been doing before. Then yesterday I decided to visit the record store nearby and pick a copy of Vidna Obmana’s “The Ultimate Sign Of Burning Death” on vinyl (Obmana, one of Dirk’s aliases). Somehow the owner of the store managed to change my mind and recommended to purchase this box set. So here I am, standing on the […]
This is one of those little jewels that came from Under The Spire last week or was it week before that.. can’t remember. Anyways, it took a little time to get close with this droned experimental-electronic-noise from Shiflet (this ain’t easy listening stuff, this is music for your headphones). Limited to 250 copies on purple wax and cost £5.00 + shipping.. not that bad price, at all. There still copies available from Under The Spire’s BandCamp site, so if You […]
Yep, it’s that latest Shellac album. This is, like all the other releases of this band (and Albini), pure gold for me. It has been a little while from that previous release but in the end, who cares? These dudes do what they want and it sounds as good as it sounded twenty years ago.. damn, am I really that old.. Thanks to late John Peel for bringing this band to my life. And about the music here on this […]
“What if you just got rid of your records and stereo equipment?” What a refreshing record this is! Noise/experimental/free improvisation record with awesome song titles! This record is surely for those of us who are not afraid to try something new. Hey, I paid $6.00 for this golden piece of abstract music (one of those Discogs purchases that came today). Limited to 300 copies, recommended release indeed! —
And then I got this piece of treasure (I know, you can still easily get this one for example from Discogs). Locrian has been one of my favorites since I was introduced to their ‘The Crystal World’ album. Droned, dark ambient, noise.. with guitars. Brilliant! Music. Surprisingly I have also purchased few releases from Terence Hannum and Steven Hess (2/3 of the band members) on vinyl too. Recommended release indeed, like all material they have done. Limited to 300 copies […]
Finally I got this beauty, compilation including two albums on vinyl ‘Moths Have Eaten the Core’ and ‘The Prevailing Wind’ from Gates. This is dark, nearly hopeless dark ambient double package. Superb compilation and very nice work from Ivory Antler & Anti-Matter. This compilation was limited to 50 copies and sold out a long, long time ago. But if you are interested, ‘The Prevailing Wind’ can be purchased from Ivory Antler and ‘Moths Have Eaten the Core’ from Anti-Matter Records. Recommended […]
About half an hour ago there was this UPS courier ringing my doorbell. He gave me this pizza box and I thought that this must have something to do with this April Fool’s Day thing. I was wrong. Inside the pizza box I found this very avantgarde, abstract noise record by Cagna Schiumante from Italy (maybe that explains this packaging). Well, very strange record indeed and this one will take some time to chew. Anyways, confusing album and limited to […]
Finally I managed to purchase this one, this has been on my wantlist for ages. Now I have nearly all vinyl releases this band has put out this far (one is still on its way to me and the only missing piece is that split seven-inch with Locrian). Funny thing is that I found this from the local record store yesterday.. It’s not usual to find these kind of records where I’m from. This is limited to 250 copies on […]
All we need is Mika Vainio. I have been a huge fan of Pan Sonic (formerly know as Panasonic), Ø , Kentolevi , Philus , Tekonivel, everything this gentleman has ever done (ques where this alias of mine is originate from..). This is one of those records I picked up today and I’m quite surprised that small town record store in this part of the world even has these kind of records. Love. Available from Boomkat, if some one else than me is interested. If you want […]
Ooooo.. this record I got today makes me speechless. I admit that I love to listen music across all genres (black metal, noise, ambient, drone.. etc.) and there certainly is something fascinating on this album. Awesome blend of noise/metal/experimental/rock, very unique if I may say. Recommended if you want to hear something totally different and exceptional music. This red colored vinyl is limited to 100 copies and available from Supernatural Cat (you can also find regular black version from the […]
First one of this year dropped today. And what we got here.. album filled with twisted & weird noise/alternative rock.. uuh! Found this one from one of those “Top 10 records of 2013” lists (that’s the reason I follow those lists, to find something new..). I like this a lot, more than a lot! Limited to 500 copies and available from MIE. Recommended!!
Latest one from Sutekh Hexen, twelve-inch on red vinyl. And yes, as we know this is the mixture of experimental-blackened-drone-metal, fascinating indeed. Actually (in my opinion) this has nothing to do with black metal, even though some might say that. For me this is more like voyage to unknown. Limited to 103 copies on red and 415 copies on black vinyl. Both versions available from Black Horizons. Here’s some teaser clip:
Uuh.. hard to ears, good to heart.Very strange collection of very strange noise. This boxset is full of.. noise. Even though this is not that cup of tea for 98% of music consumers, I’m one of those 2%, very liberating experience. Released by Urishma and At War With False Noise, limited to 199 hand-numbered copies. Sold out from Urishma but At War With False Noise seems to have some copies left (and shipping costs should not be problem because from Europe […]
This came from Cardinal Fuzz today. Experimental-drone-noise-rock, and it sounds good! This was released on cassette about an year ago and now this saw daylight on vinyl too. Pink one is limited to 150 copies and still available from Cardinal Fuzz. Support this awesome label (they have put out some amazing records lately).
This time release from Aurora Borealis. Damn I like this one too. This was supposed to be released on clear vinyl but came out on black (..so what). New artist for me. Love this intensity and sounscapes of this release. I’m so thankful that there are companies like Aurora Borealis. Is this black metal, avant-garde black metal? I do not think so. This is music (in my opinion there are no genre limits, there is only a sound, waves in […]
This one has been on my “wantlist” so loooooong.. Now I decided to purchase this strange record. Experimental avant-garde jazz-noise, not for everyone that’s for sure. I like these kind of strange records. This is limited to 150 copies on white and 200 copies on black vinyl. Both versions available from Denovali. Get it.
It seems that I have addicted to this artist some bizarre way.. This one I also picked up today. And I have to admit that I have waited for some time to get this on fair prize and suddenly found this from Discogs. I like this, a lot. This color variation is limited to 100 copies and there is also copies (200) on classic black vinyl. If you are after this. head to Discogs and you may find a copy […]
And now little darker and agonizing vinyl release. This 12″ from Sutekh Hexen arrived today. I like this kind of stuff, reminds me of Ash Borer or Horseback. Limited to 160 copies on this color and 351 copies on black vinyl. Available from King Of The Monsters or Sutekh Hexen’s StoreEnvy page. Goooooodddd…
And little avant-garde-jazz-industrial-metal-noise for the people. I have known this band for ages but this is the first record I have bought from their catalogue. Now I know what I have missed. Wonderful record for those who can walk their ears and eyes open. Love. If I’m not totally wrong, this orange version is limited to 100 copies, and of course there is regular black version available. Both versions seems to be available from Prosthetic Records.
This was purely purchased because of mail I got from Boomkat last week. I already had part one so there was no excuse to not order this one. Initial copies came on this color but Boomkat still have regular black ones if you missed this. Love these records by Demdike..
Purchased this few years ago, time when I was fashioned about everything Type records were releasing. Well, nice record if you like this kind of “noise”. Initial copies came on transparent red vinyl. And this can be easily purchased from Discogs if you are up to colored and limited editions. I bought my copy from Boomkat (great webstore!).
This awesome album also came today. Been fan of this band since their debut album “The Tunnels”. And this album does not make exception. One word, Amazing. This is Phoenix risen from the ashes of late Breach. This is limited to 100 copies on clear and 400 copies on black vinyl. Clear one is sold out but there are black copies available from Apocaplexy Records. Recommended, highly.
And what can I say about this record.. This might cause you everlasting headache but some totally strange way I really enjoy listening this totally torn apart record. This is limited to 500 copies and initial copies came on red, translucent vinyl. If you want total ear-torture, you can purchase this easily from Discogs (and there are also red copies available if you fancy that color).
Been listening these ambient/electronic records last few days.. This one I picked last summer and once again, I like what I’m hearing. I know this kind of music little hard for some people to understand :) This little dark diamond is available from Boomkat (other place to look for this is Discogs).
